Who I Am

I am an independent Swiss Software Engineering, Data Science & AI Consultant. I graduated with a Master’s in Data Science from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) and have several years of experience in the field.

When it comes to programming languages, I am most proficient in Scala, Python, SQL, HTML, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript but have the flexibility to quickly adapt to new environments and tooling.

With a successful track record in empowering large organizations with high-quality, impactful solutions, I am passionate about leveraging my extensive skillset and experience to make positive contributions and bring forth interesting projects to life.

My Software Journey

My journey with software started some 20 years ago. Having always been passionate about technology, mathematics and creative expression, I have found a keen interest in independently learning programming during my school years. After having become versed in Java, through which I would be introduced to static typing and object-oriented programming, I expanded my toolkit with HTML, CSS & JavaScript. Making use of the latter to implement websites for various parties in Switzerland would mark the inception of my consulting journey.

Despite enjoying the languages I had come to master, I am always on the lookout for new ways to build high quality software in a safer, more ergonomic and more enjoyable way. After having been formally reintroduced to Java many years later during my university studies at Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, I would become interested in Scala, which I could initially learn with its author, professor Martin Odersky. Scala, through which I discovered functional programming and its synergy with object-oriented Programming, would change the way I write software and to this day I deeply enjoy its simplicity, elegance and power.

After concluding my Bachelor’s in Communication Systems with a specialization in Software Construction, satisfying my passions for maths, statistics and programming, I would naturally transition to a field encompassing all those interests and allowing me to explore new venues to create software. Joining the newly found Data Science Master’s at EPFL, my ML & AI journey would formally start. Next to learning the theoretical foundations, I would implement multiple projects with several laboratories at EPFL, obviously making use of the de facto languages of Data Science, namely Python and SQL, and leveraging standard tooling such as Pytorch and Pandas.

Completing my Master’s with an already rich background in my fields of interest, my subsequent work would give me the opportunity to further enrich this experience and apply my skills on impactful real-world use cases.
